The 2008 production was a departure from the norm for the Philharmonic
who produced a light hearted revue of shows dating from the late
1800s (Gilbert and Sullivan) through the decades to the current
modern musical (Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Spamalot, Les Miserables
etc.) showing the development stages of musicals through the last
century.
When deciding on the 2008 show, the society was working on the
presumption that the show would be performed at Ayr Town Hall. Given
the restrictions that the Town Hall has in terms of staging, the
members chose to do a revue instead of one of the normal shows.
In the end, the Gaiety Theatre was available in November 2008 but,
by that stage, with rehearsals at an advanced stage, the Society
pressed on with Musical Stages. The show was very well
received and offered members the opportunity to perform songs that
they wouldn't normally get the opportunity to cover.
